LEXINGTON, KY-Students from Williamsburg High School's JAG program recently made their mark at the Kentucky Career Development Conference, with several earning spots to compete at the national level this April in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The annual competition challenges students across the state to demonstrate employability skills, career readiness, and financial literacy through real-world simulations and presentations to expert judges. Seven students qualified for state competition, and two earned the prestigious honor of advancing to nationals.
National Qualifiers
Evan Moses (Financial Budgeting) created a comprehensive post-graduation budget aligned with his goal of becoming a real estate agent. Currently interning at a real estate office while completing pre-licensing coursework, Evan impressed judges with his realistic first-year financial plan.
Kara Fuson (Career Preparation) presented an ambitious aerospace engineering pathway through Air Force ROTC. Her presentation showcased her academic preparation and commitment to military service.
State-Level Standouts
Abbigail Jackson & Mason Rountree advanced to state with their Business Plan entry, "The Showcase Service"—an innovative venture combining vehicle detailing, professional photography, and marketing services for dealerships and independent sellers. The student entrepreneurs, who already operate their own businesses, developed a 13-page proposal complete with financial projections and market research.
Program Recognition
In addition to student achievements, Kandice Powers, JAG coordinator, was awarded JAG Kentucky New Specialist of the Year for her outstanding leadership and dedication to the program.
"These students represent the very best of our school," said Principal Ashley Partin. "Their commitment to excellence and real-world problem-solving is truly inspiring. We're thrilled to see them represent us on the state & national stage."
Superintendent Tabetha Housekeeper added, "The JAG program continues to prepare our students for success beyond the classroom. This level of achievement reflects the hard work of our students, staff, and community partners."
